Things Not To Do

Okay, authors. A word of advice here.

When you are sending in a query letter about your book, the fact that you have two self-published books is NOT a positive credential for you. It does not say to me “Oh, look, she must be a serious writer if she’s self-published.” Instead, it says “She is impatient and would rather hold a bound book in her hands than do things right and do the work to get it legitimately published.”

And furthermore? If you mention that you are self-publishing your autobiography, entitled Authorsname: Strenth, Courage, and Spirit,” this will not impress the editor. Instead, it will make the editor break down in giggles.
